Our Dahlia Hybridization Program and Love It, Show It, Sell It Rewards

It gives us immense joy to introduce dahlia varieties we have hybridized right here on our farm in Stanwood, WA. Each dahlia comes from seed harvested by hand and grown out for a minimum of 3 seasons before being released for sale. Some seedlings we may send to the ADS trial garden or ADS seedling bench but the majority won't. We love both show flowers and garden flowers!

We do hybridizing differently here at Idlewild Blooms. Our goal is to release 10-30 new dahlias every year for the public to enjoy at a reasonably low price point.

We don't intend to continue high production of our varieties indefinitely. Once we release a new variety, we will reduce our production to just 4 plants for the following season. Some varieties we will stop production after that season altogether.

It's our intention to incentivize YOU to propagate, sell and show our dahlias far and wide. In recent years dahlia breeders have taken the opposite stance by springing costly royalty programs with onerous contracts on unsuspecting customers. That's not what we are about here at Idlewild Blooms. We believe hobby growers and farms alike should be able to propagate and sell our varieties with zero restrictions AND make as much money for themselves as they possibly can for their effort.

Let's be clear... we don't care how much you charge for tubers or cuttings of our varieties. Charge more than us, charge less than us, give them away... whatever you want!

Not only that, each introduction comes with our "Love It, Show It, Sell It Rewards Program". If you purchase one of our introductions and either win a blue ribbon in a dahlia show with it or list tubers or bloom verified cuttings for sale on your website the following season, you'll earn a permanent 15% discount in our tuber store and exclusive early access to future sales.

Terms to Qualify for the Rewards Program

  • Purchase one of the following dahlias from us: Idlewild Miss Lavendar, Katherine's Sunset, Idlewild Puffed Sleeves, Idlewild Emberlight, Idlewild Anne's Diamond, Idlewild Cherub, Idlewild Stella
  • EITHER show OR sell that dahlia using the following guidelines:
  • Enter a single or triple staged bloom of one of the varieties listed above into any ADS affiliated dahlia show and win a blue ribbon or higher award.
  • The following season, list one of the varieties named above for sale on your website for either bloom verified cuttings or tuber sales.
  • Submit the following form (link available at the end of the 2026 season).
  • Once we review your submission, we will add you to our rewards program email list. We will only pre-announce our future sale dates to our rewards program members, so you will have first dibs on sales. We will also add a permanent 15% discount to your email address in our store. Any purchase made will automatically be given the discount, no coupon code needed.
  • Please note: selling non-bloom-verified cuttings will NOT qualify you for the rewards program. This means cuttings sold the same season as the tuber is acquired will not count towards the reward program. Please sell bloom-verified cuttings as a standard practice.
